He\u00a0was a member of Mi\u00f1i-Mi\u00f1i RC Club\u00a0(now closed), the Ceiba RC Club (now\u00a0closed), the Carolina RC Club, and the\u00a0Borinquen RC Club. Most of the time,\u00a0he flies Scale, International Miniature\u00a0Aerobatic Club, and turbine jets. Now,\u00a0more than 20 years later, he is an\u00a0airline transport pilot with Republic\u00a0Airways, flying an EMBREAR-175. He won four CL\u00a0state championships when he was\u00a0approximately 20 years old. He has\u00a0been an AMA member since 1955 and\u00a0still flies a little CL.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In 1968, Paul started flying RC\u00a0models, and most of his time was spent\u00a0flying RC Aerobatics (Pattern). In 1986,\u00a0he placed second in Masters Pattern at\u00a0the Nats. Paul also won the National\u00a0Society of Radio Control Aerobatics\u00a0District Championship several times.\u00a0He currently flies Sport Aerobatics with\u00a0a lot of Extra 260s and 300s,\u00a050 and 10cc, as well as a few\u00a0warbirds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Paul recently stepped\u00a0down as vice president of\u00a0the Mississippi Coast RC\u00a0Club, after having served\u00a0as a club officer for most\u00a0of the last 22 years. He has\u00a0been an AVP for the past\u00a011 years.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_88\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-88\" style=\"width: 297px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/amablog-modelaircraft-org.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2016\/09\/modelaviation201607-V-03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-88\" src=\"https:\/\/amablog-modelaircraft-org.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2016\/09\/modelaviation201607-V-03.jpg\" alt=\"Dave Wenzel, Georgia AVP,\" width=\"297\" height=\"205\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-88\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dave Wenzel, Georgia AVP,<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Dave Wenzel,<\/strong> Georgia\u00a0AVP, started flying CL\u00a0at age 13 and continued\u00a0throughout high school. In\u00a0roughly 1970, he started\u00a0flying RC and entered\u00a0several contests on the East\u00a0Coast and competed in\u00a0the 1983 and 1985 Nats in\u00a0Massachusetts.\u00a0Dave has served in\u00a0several club officer positions\u00a0including president in the\u00a0New Jersey-Philadelphia\u00a0area. In 2002, he moved to\u00a0Georgia and joined a local\u00a0club where he again served\u00a0as president in addition to\u00a0other offices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Not long after, Dave\u00a0returned to his roots and\u00a0resumed CL flying. He has\u00a0flown in a few contests,\u00a0but likes to judge events\u00a0even more. He judged at\u00a0the Nats one year and soon\u00a0discovered another position\u00a0that needed filled\u2014pit boss.\u00a0Dave has served as pit boss\u00a0for the last four Nats and\u00a0will do so again this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201c[Being an] associate vice\u00a0president of AMA has been\u00a0very rewarding,\u201d wrote\u00a0Dave. \u201cBeing a part of an\u00a0organization that has\u00a0promoted things that I have\u00a0been doing since 1961, and\u00a0meeting and talking to some\u00a0of the greatest people who\u00a0enjoy the same is priceless.
