\nKansas, Colorado, South Dakota<\/p>\n

I was happy <\/span>to attend the Fargo\u00a0Moorhead Skylarks 59th <\/span>Annual\u00a0Control Line (CL) Contest in Fargo,\u00a0North Dakota. Fifty-nine years is an\u00a0accomplishment, and this event is still\u00a0vibrant and engaging. The club ran three\u00a0circles to accommodate CL Aerobatics,\u00a0Navy Carrier, and CL Combat. This\u00a0truly is an international event with\u00a0several attendees from Canada and\u00a0as far away as Colorado. Many of the\u00a0competitors were entered in several\u00a0events.<\/p>\n

Pete Mazur and Roger Olson, two of\u00a0the original event organizers, competed\u00a0as they have most of the years of this\u00a0long-running event. The other original\u00a0organizer was Mike Olson, the father\u00a0of Aimee (Olson) Bagley and Angela\u00a0(Olson) Boser. Mike passed in 2012.\u00a0Aimee and Paul Kegel now coordinate\u00a0the event that Mike served as contest\u00a0director of for so many years.<\/p>\n

The 60th <\/span>anniversary looks to be very\u00a0special. Planning has already begun.<\/p>\n

Many District IX clubs held a National\u00a0Model Aviation Day event, including\u00a0the Longmont Electric Aircraft Flyers\u00a0(LEAF) of Longmont, Colorado. The\u00a0event raised more than $1,100 for\u00a0Wounded Warrior Project.<\/p>\n

Several days before the event, Rick\u00a0McCaskill, president of LEAF, joined\u00a0the morning show on the Denver NBC\u00a0affiliate and the publicity paid off. The\u00a0LEAF club welcomed 25 pilots and\u00a0more than 100 guests to its field on\u00a0Saturday, August 15, 2015. In the midst\u00a0of all the fun events, including limbo\u00a0and balloon busting, they found time to\u00a0do introductory flights for 12 novices\u00a0and signed up four new members. A big\u00a0pat on the back, people\u2014outstanding!<\/p>\n
