The day will be a meld of history and playtime when the Alvin RC Model Airplane Association presents its Warbirds Over Alvin Fly-In Saturday, Oct. 6.<\/p>\n

Guests will have a chance to watch model airplane pilots fly replicas of military aircraft dating to World War I.<\/p>\n

“We do it so people can show off,” contest director Benny Behrens said. “There’s a lot of pride that goes into the building process.”<\/p>\n

The fly-in will take place at the club’s field, 2444 County Road 180, in Alvin. The field includes a 40-by-400-foot runway and a 100-by-800-foot runway.<\/p>\n

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Participants will be charged a $15 landing fee per entry. Flying will start about 10 a.m.<\/p>\n

“Normally at these events there are lots of planes scattered around on the ground that folks can stroll around and look at starting fairly early,” Behrens added.<\/p>\n

Admission is free for spectators, and concessions will be available. Guests also will have a chance to enter raffles for prizes donated by area vendors.<\/p>\n
