Andrew Richerson performed a few barrel rolls with the model plane he was flying, but they weren\u2019t on purpose.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was turning and I sped up,\u201d said the 16-year-old Arroyo Grande resident, a recent transplant from Poland. \u201cIt was very fun. I was very happy I had my buddy to help me.\u201d \u201cI had a hard time to turn left, and when I got it, it was nice,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Richerson was one of several dozen youths who participated in Youth Fly Day at the Santa Maria Elks\/Unocal Event Center last Saturday. The free event was hosted by the Tri-Valley RC Modelers, a group founded in the 1960s that boasts more than 70 local members.<\/p>\n
