Control-line model aircrafts compete in regional event at Roseburg airport this past weekend

United Airlines pilot David Fitzgerald is in Roseburg this weekend to fly his airplane, but it’s not his Boeing 777. Instead he’s flying his control-line model aircraft at the 46th annual Northwest Control-Line Regionals at the Roseburg Regional Airport.
“I love everything about aviation and everything about airplanes,” Fitzgerald said. I started with model airplanes but my job is flying airplanes with United. (The models) taught me a lot about airplanes and I have an aeronautics degree and you don’t need that to be a pilot, but it helps to understand all aspects.”
Fitzgerald of Napa, California, is a former control-line aerobatics world champion.
