The Academy established a program in the mid-1960s for local AMA members to join together as a group and secure use of private, commercial or public property for flying sites. This was structured under the concept of organized groups, which were identified as AMA Chartered Clubs. Today, the Academy provides liability coverage to approximately 2,400 chartered clubs throughout the United States.

Those who fly model airplanes are thankful for the new structure as the previous one had reached the end of its road.
