AMA District VI News March 2019

Where is 2019 going? This is the March issue already! When I was a young lad, the old-timers all said, “the older you get, the faster time goes.” I just thought it was mindless babble. I am now a believer!

We are having some good temperatures to go flying again, if the wind would slow down just a little bit!

For those who attend the Toledo Show: R/C Model Expo, this year Tim Jesky, Mark Radcliff, and I will be hosting a combined meeting for Districts VII, District III, and District VI on Saturday of the show. All attendees will have the chance to win a new transmitter!

This month’s submission comes from Joe Trytek, secretary for the Tri-Village RC Club in Illinois.

The Tri-Village and Northwest RC clubs’ 27th annual Food Drive and Chili Penguin Fun Fly was an overwhelming success. The weather on Sunday, December 9, 2018, was the best we have had in a long time. Members of both clubs turned out to donate, fly, and enjoy good company for a great cause. The event took place at the Poplar Creek Flying field in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

Thanks to all the members of Tri-Village and Northwest RC clubs for their contributions of dry goods and cash to the annual food drive. It was again an outstanding success with a Jeep load of dry goods and monetary donations of $2,720 ($2,160 last year), which was converted to 264 (that’s 1,320 pounds) Dubuque 5-pound canned hams. You beat Susan’s challenge of 1,000 pounds, which put a big smile on her face—until she realized two trips were needed to get them delivered. The level of generosity that our clubs have and share with the community is truly amazing.

Susan delivered the dry goods to the Hanover Township food pantry on December 10. Thanks to Bob Larsen’s efforts in graciously procuring the hams for us again this year. Susan picked the hams up from Valley Produce and delivered them to both pantries on December 12. The pantries are overjoyed with the generosity and efforts that our clubs do for the community.

Give a big hand to all of the chili cooks again this year for donating their time and efforts to make some great chili for us to enjoy.

If you enjoyed this month’s submission and would like to see an event from your own club here, email me a short write-up with the word “magazine” in the subject line and attach a few high-quality digital pictures. As you can see, this month I only had one submission, therefore they got extra pictures!

Also, please take the time to introduce someone else to model aviation!
